2 x 4's and Scrapbook Paper

Hello again!  I am sure that  I  mentioned to you dozens a couple of times about my three daughters. I am one proud mama!    My middle daughter is transferring colleges in the Fall and will be moving 4 hours away.  (I don't know how I am going to handle this).  She is my "sunshine girl".  She loves to be outdoors and is a very nature loving person.  I often call her my "hippy child."  She should have been born in the 60's.  She loves to swing and walk barefoot in the grass.  She is a fan of John Denver and loves his song, "Sunshine".  Lol.  I wanted to make her something to have that would remind her of how much I love her.   So-- I made this sign for her to hang on her wall.  Hope you like it.  Try to make one of your own.. it's really easy!  I have included a tutorial.  Thanks for visiting me. Come back soon!

First, find a piece of wood the size you want your sign to be. Choose your scrapbook paper colors and cut them to fit your board in whichever design you choose.

Next, I painted the edges of my wood, but you don't necessarily have to do this.

Now -- glue your paper down on the wood with modge podge.  I made my own. (50% elmers glue and 50% water).  Smooth out the wrinkles as it dries.  Put a layer of modge podge on top of the paper too.

Add all your letters, embellishments and pictures last.  I modge podged my letters and then I used double sided tape (lots of it) and pop up dots on the rest.  I took my matching ribbon and just used a push pin to hold it in the sides of the wood.

Good luck and please send me a picture if you make one of your own!

  4. Hi, Cathy...I found you through Sew Many Ways Find a Friend Friday. I really like the appearance of your blog...it's fresh and sunny and a great layout. I've only been blogging since January, so I'm still in the learning curve phase. Fun to see what other blogs look like. This is a super fun project...I may have to give it a try!
