Easy to make SpongeBob t shirt dress

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?  SpongeBob Square Pants!  Lol.  How can you not just love this squishy yellow fellow?  A sweet little friend of mine wanted to dress as SpongeBob for character day at school.  The only costumes available to buy were big and bulky and would not be comfortable to wear at school all day long.  So, we decided to just sew her up one. It  turned out cute and she seemed to like it.  Here are the "how to's" in case you would like to make one of your own.  It was really very easy.  Hope you enjoy it and thanks for visiting!

I purchased the yellow t shirt a size bigger than she normally wears.  (this one is a child's size medium)   I also bought 1/2 yard of brown fabric.

I tried the t shirt on her and marked where I wanted the skirt to start.  Next, I cut off the bottom of the t shirt below my mark.  Then,  I measured the brown fabric to the width of the t shirt bottom  and doubled that.  Then I cut the brown fabric into two pieces and sewed up both edges. (right sides together).  Finally, I turned it inside out, pinned the brown fabric inside the shirt and sewed it together.

I cut the belt, tie, eyes, mouth, teeth and nose from felt and sewed them on.  I drew on the eyelashes, tongue, spots and smile lines with fabric markers.  Then I tried it on her and hemmed it.  She wanted the nose to "stick out" so I just sewed the edge of it down.

Ta da... and here she is....  complete with her striped socks and ready for character day!

Butterfly Patchwork Valentine Pillows

Are you ready for Valentine's day?  These patchwork butterflies have been  sitting around in my stash waiting to be turned into something beautiful for quite awhile.  I pulled them out when I was  re-organizing and made up my mind to finally put them to some use! ( My first intentions were to make a quilt with them.. but that never worked out.)  So -- here they are.  All sewed up and ready for Valentine's Day!

Finished Craft Room/Bedroom reveal (Part II)

We have completed  my Craft/Bedroom make over!  I am really happy with the results.  I tried to be as cheap  economical as possible by purchasing the wall hangings on clearance at Hobby Lobby, recovering a headboard I already had with this pretty red material, and re-doing a small lamp that I already had around the house. (I will share the  lamp re-do   on another post sometime).  My daughter came home for the weekend from college and she loves it!  We had a little laugh because it occured to us that the headboard looks a little like the inside of Count Dracula's coffin.  Lol.    I wanted to share a few more photos so you could see a couple of other things I added to.  Thanks for dropping in!

I got this old tv cabinet from a dear friend (Thanks, Tammy!).  Tracy helped me to remove the tv and wires.  I spray painted it black and now it makes a great storage place for Hannah's luggage when she comes home.

I found this wall art at Dollar Tree.  Seriously... one dollar!

Here's is a close up of Dracula's Coffin the headboard and some pillows I made to match.

Last, but not least, I finally got me a bodice!  I love it.  It came from Hobby Lobby.  It was on sale for $48.00 and I used a gift card I received from my MIL for Christmas to help purchase it.  I have been wanting one forever!

Thanks for visiting me.  Leave a comment so I will know you were here!

"Stampin up'" Noble Deer card

Now that I have my scrap/sewing room in order; I am enjoying making a few things.  I put together  this deer card for my nephew's birthday  this weekend.  I love this stamp set so much.  It's called "Noble Deer" made by Stampin Up.  Someone once told me; always make two of every card you do.  It's just as easy to make two, since you have the materials already out.  I am going to try to do this and hopefully build up my card inventory.
Thanks for visiting.  See you again soon!

Wooden faux fireplace Cover

I saw this picture of a lovely faux log fireplace cover on one of my friends (Carson's) facebook this morning. I thought it was so adorable. Carson agreed to send me the "how to's" and a few more pictures to share. Hope you like it as much as I do. They did an awesome job! Here are the instructions she sent me:

"We had some fallen oak limbs in our yard that we let dry since summer. Jeff cut them with his miter saw to different depths for interest ( he didn't do any deeper than what he could use a finishing nail gun with to attach them). He cut a piece of plywood the exact opening of the fireplace and attached foam insulation to the back. Then he stained the plywood with an ebony color. He did cut some 2x4s to make "L" shaped brackets on the back of the board for extra support and weight to keep it upright. Then I arranged all the pieces he cut, so everything looked balanced. He then nailed all the pieces into the plywood from the front through the discs of wood. A couple of the pieces of wood were loose, so he nailed those from the back. It was a quick project. All the pieces were left over from other projects except the stain, and that only cost $4!"

I seriously have got to try this for our fireplace.. as soon as I can get rid of the ugly brass cover I have on it! Thanks, Carson and Jeff, for sharing your DIY project with us!

Mismatched Sock Snake Tutorial

I saw this tutorial on pinterest and just had to share it with you.  It came from Kathleen over @
http://grosgrainfabulous.blogspot.com/2013/05/mismatched-socks-sew-sock-snake.html.  I thought it was such a great idea.  Unfortunately, I just cleaned out our sock drawers and got rid of all the un-matching pair :(  However, I know it won't take long to have enough "singles" to make one of these.  Click on over to Kathleen's site and check it out.  She even has a free PDF for you!
