Busy as a bee!

Hello bloggin' friends!  I have missed you!  I just wanted you to know that I am still here.  I am working on so many projects right now that I don't  have time to post.  My daughter and her fiancé closed on their new home this morning; so we plan to help them move furniture over the next few days.  I am also working on decorating for a bridal shower (sewing theme), putting together  a few sewing projects and I also started on a couple of furniture re-do's.  Can't wait to share these projects with you soon!  In the meantime, I wanted to share this project from Amanda over @  Jedi Craft Girl.    It is a very easy  to sew summer hoodie.  So cute.  I think even my teenage girls would love one of these!  Click on over and check it out!  http://jedicraftgirl.blogspot.com/2013/07/summer-hoodie-tutorial.html

Sewing theme Bridal Shower Ideas

Hello friends... Hope you have all had a great week.  So glad it's Friday.  I have so many projects I am working on right now.  I am trying to get my mind in "fall gear" and work on some fall projects, but I also have Hilary's wedding on my mind.  She has a shower coming up in early August.  I asked the hostesses if I could do the decorating.  (Hope that wasn't taboo or "against any rules")  They did not seem to mind (in fact they seemed rather relieved -- Lol).  Anyhow, I want to do a Sewing themed  shower.  Hilary loves to sew.  I have already started on some of the decorations, but I can't post them because I don't want to ruin the surprise for her!  I have been searching the internet for inspiration and found this    http://celebrationsathomeblog.com/2013/04/shabby-chic-dessert-table.html.       I love all these ideas and may try to do some of my own that are similar to this!   If you have any other ideas PLEASE let me know!  Thanks!

Our 4th of July Celebration

I can't believe the holiday is over and work starts back  tomorrow!  Even though it rained all day (and hurricane force winds blew my table cloths all over the yard), we still had a good time on the fourth of July!  We had lots of family and friends over for our BBQ.  We ate TOO much and played dominos and bingo.  It was fun!  I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday as well.  Now.. what next???... I guess it's time to start on those fall crafts.. Oh my!

4th of July -- Washi Tape Cup "NameTags" from Michelle Paige

As you all know, I have been gathering ideas for our Fourth of July BBQ.  I saw this really neat idea @ http://www.michellepaigeblog.com/2013/06/washi-tape-cup-markers.html.  Isn't that just great?  I ordered me some patriotic washi tape from Amazon and picked up my cups at WalMart this morning.  Can't wait to make these!

How to sew a Pennant

Hello friends!  I hope your week has been a good one.  Well.. I finished sewing my patriotic pennant!  I used material that I had in my stash.  (who knows where it all came from????)   This pennant will  be perfect for our 4th of July BBQ.  I like it SO much that I think I am going to do another one very soon.  It was so easy.  I have added a tutorial so you can make one for yourself.  Hope you like it too!

 

 

 

 

 

First, gather your fabrics and make a pennant pattern from cardstock.   There are lots of patterns online free to print out.   If you have a cutting board and some rotary scissors -- grab them. 

 

Next, lay your fabric printed sides together (make it wide enough for pennant to fit)  and put your template with one side on the straight edge.

 

Using your scissors, cut the pennant out.  Leave it folded with right sides together.  If you don't have rotary scissors; just trace on the pattern and cut it out.  Cut as many as you like from your fabric. 

 

Next, iron all  the pennants with right sides together until you get them nice and flat. (this will make your sewing much easier)

Now.. sew each of your pennants  together closing up the open side  (still with right sides together).  Turn pennants back right side out.  Iron them again till you get the perfect triangle shape.   Okay.. now lay out your pennants  in the order you want   to sew them.  Measure to see how much ribbon you will need for the top and ties.   I used a very wide white ribbon and pressed it down the middle with my iron.  I then laid out my pennants across the floor and pinned them with the ribbon on the front and back side of the pennant. Next, sew  across the bottom of the ribbon.  (Hint -- watch your pennants to make sure they don't slide out so you are sure to sew both sides. )   Leave enough ribbon at the end so you can have room to tie.  (or make a loop if you plan to hang it on a nail.)  And that's it....   See  -- it's sew easy!
